According to the ILSI (International Life Sciences Institute) definition, DanActive
TM is a probiotic drink, which contains two commonly-used yogurt strains whose effects have been known for more than 80 years (Danone yogurts were sold by pharmacists for children suffering from chronic diarrhea) and a specific strain known as
Lactobacillus casei DN 114-001, its scientific name, or
Lactobacillus casei DEFENSIS, its brand name.
Probiotic foods contain bacteria that must be:
- present as live cells and preferably in high quantities,
- stable and viable during the entire shelf life of the product,
- capable of conferring health benefits on the host.
DanActive
TM contains the two standard yogurt strains.
Lactobacillus bulgaricus and
Streptococcus thermophilus are found in the finished product at concentrations of 10
7 and 10
8 cfu/g, respectively, and a specific strain from Danone Research
Lactobacillus casei DN 114-001 is found at a concentration of 10
8 cfu/g, representing 10 billion cfu per bottle. These concentrations are guaranteed for the entire shelf life of the product.
In recent years, Groupe Danone has developed a unified scientific approach and has shown that DanActive
TM and/or
Lactobacillus casei DN 114-001 confer biological, physiological or clinical effects in different types of models, and that these effects are associated with the optimisation of certain bodily functions, resulting in improved defence against external aggressions and against infections in particular.
