Our Intestines

Almost 70 percent of our antibacterial defenses are located in our intestine.

Often underestimated, this portion of the alimentary canal plays different roles that take on major importance in maintaining our health, in particular:

  • the digestion of food: the intestine is a filter that absorbs nutrients our body needs to survive
  • protection: it rejects undesirable elements, such as harmful bacteria.

In addition, the intestine contains more than 100 trillion friendly bacteria that work closely with the rest of the body. These bacteria assume the role of defence against harmful bacteria. For each of us, they represent precious and essential allies – they compose our intestinal flora.

The intestine’s three defenders

The intestine constitutes a true barrier between the external environment and our body. This barrier extends more than seven metres, with a surface area comparable to that of a tennis court, some 200 square metres!

Our intestine’s defence system is composed of three defenders: the intestinal microflora, the intestinal lining and the intestinal immune system.

DanActiveTM contains 10 billion L. casei DefensisTM bacteria per bottle, which allows it to act upon the intestine’s three natural defenders:

1. The intestinal microflora

The intestinal microflora contain a substantial number of bacteria – about 100 trillion or so – among which more than 400 species can be found.

This microflora has a beneficial effect on the body’s natural defenses by combating harmful bacteria. Daily consumption of DanActiveTM helps boost the number of helpful bacteria for the microflora. We also know that, both directly and indirectly, our microflora fight harmful bacteria.

2. The instestinal lining

The intestinal lining covers a wide area; this wall serves as a transfer agent that facilitates the absorption of nutrients and helps our body defend itself. DanActiveTM improves the effectiveness of this barrier, and of the intestinal mucus it produces, primarily by accelerating cell regeneration. This way, the membrane is better able to fulfil its role as a barrier against undesirable bacteria.

3. The immune system

Our intestinal immune system contains almost 70 percent of the immune cells found in our body. Herein lies the key to DanActiveTM’s effectiveness: it helps improve the functioning of certain natural defence elements which serve to combat undesirable bacteria.
